Top Secret Bed Project

Since Kathleen is in Indiana (and never reads my blog), I thought I'd share with you all a little project we've been working on in her absence.
Bye Bye to the old bed I painted just for my little baby-girl (with castles, and her and her cat)....

And hello to a new built-in bed built by BF, and painted by me! :)
I had a basic design in mind, but thank God BF knows what he's doing. I would have cobbed that thing together SO badly...lol. He did an amazing job.
The shelf at the end is for her TV. I know, she shouldn't have a TV in her room. Whatev.
She's a good kid!
The shelf at the back was BF's idea, and it's genius! I was just going to have her mattress floating around up there on 48" of plywood. Now she has a place for books, and drinks, and her clock and whatnot. And look at all that storage underneath! I hadn't considered what I would put on the sides of the cubbies to keep it from being naked 2 x 4's, but we found the 1/8" hardboard sheathing, and it works perfectly! I'm thinking little curtains on tension rods in each section will keep the whole thing looking neat. Then she can put whatever she wants under there and we won't have to look at it! :)
Here it is with one coat of wet paint. You're going to have to wait until I get her room put back together for REAL after pics.
Oh, and LOOK! Tiny little turkeys in my yard! Aren't they adorable?!
And last but not least, we had a lovely time at my friends Georgia and Dan's house on the 4th. They had lots of fireworks and put on quite a show. I couldn't believe my camera actually had a fireworks setting! Not bad, eh?

She's going to be thrilled! What a fun surprise awaits her.

I like your blog design. So fresh and funky.

Thanks, Carol! I was just in there trying to get more of her stuff organized.

I liked this blog design for the first couple of weeks, but I'm over it now...lol...it's a little loud for me. Oh well. It's good enough until I get inspired to design a new one for myself. I got this one from scrappinblogs.blogspot.com

OOOOH!! Ultra cool, shell love it. I LOVE it. Would love to replicate it...but won't.

We just replaced Olivias double bed and headboard with a single. No headboard. We are redoing her room too.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

Yup, that Kathleen's a good kid and a keeper, for sure! I know you're just totally giddy with delight at creating this surprise for her. I hope you can get pics of her reaction! The new bed is looking awesome; very well-thought-out with places for teen stuff and lots of hidewaway storage. (The old one was awesome, too. I hope it finds a good home for a sweet little girl.)

Where'd you get the super-graphic? It's neat-o! I plan to paint one on the staircase wall, but haven't decided on a pattern yet. Collecting ideas ...

Tat is such a great kid (I mean, young lady) . . . and you are such a great Mom! She's going to LOVE it!

I don't get to have time to respond like I used to but wanted to add that I love everything you have done/are doing with your perfectly perfect for you little house. Simply love all of it.

Diane! It's so good to hear from you. I miss the good ol' days of GI, don't you guys? *sigh* Oh well. I guess some of us will have to make do with FB, and some with blogging.

Linda, are you going to post pics of your daughter's redo? I'll have to pop over and have a look-see.

Rose, that graphic was a gift to Kathleen from my friend Kelly. She found it online somewhere. They have lots of options on Etsy too! What a great idea for your stairs--what about that blowing dandelion I posted with that teen room thing we did with Sandra? The loose ones could be blowing UP your stairs! You could SO paint that!

Thanks Sharon! and yes, I guess we all have come a long way since GI. It was fun while it lasted, but I have to say, I'm having a blast blogging too. Lots of new people out there to meet. I do love it when those girls try new things & I've had to learn a lot of stuff myself, so I know others can too.

Your DD's bed is going to be adorable. Can't wait to see it done. And I don't think I said this before, but hurray for you...BF, yea! :)

Oh, what a cool make-over project! I just love that Beautiful wall - and the bed really is a cool design.

Don't throw away that old headboard, though! That's too sweet to lose, especially since you did it yourself.

Had fun with my fireworks setting, too! Happy July!

That is such a cool graphic and looks great in there, plus it's just a great message. I like the idea of the dandelions blowing with some escaping up the wall. I've been thinking about doing this one; pretty whimsical:

And then putting the word "Be" across it in this writing style:

Oh, I wanted to add that some of us are working really hard to create a new GI. Blogs are cool, but they're individualistic; I like the sense of community we had with GI. (For me, facebook's signal-to-noise ratio is much lower than having our own targeted community.)
