Slipcovers in Progress

Thanks, Sally, for the kick in the pants I needed! I'm making serious progress!!
The couch has saddle stitching down the back, so I'm doing that on the slipcover too. It adds a little detail to the back instead of just a big expanse of flat fabric. It's a small thing, but it makes a big difference.
You can see where the cats have scratched the hell out of the couch, and where 10 years of dirt and grime have taken over. I can't wait until it's all hidden!!
This is what the linen looked like after I washed it in warm water and dried it in a hot dryer. I'm serging all the inside edges of the slipcover so that I'll be able to wash it. Linen just gets better with washings!
Stay tuned for "after" pics--coming soon! (I hope)

Just sippin' my morning jo and looking at MY linen slipcovers. Got me wondering if you had made any progress. Oh my YAY!! They are going to look wonderful...looooooooooove the way it looks so far. My girl did not serge my seams...I wish she had. The other day I was clipping tons of linen strings from the inside of the cushions...had enough to make a big linen nest! Good thinking Sharona. You have made my day!

Oh be still my heart! I love slipcovers and dearly need to get one for my upholstered rocker. I've never done any kind of sewing so making my own is mighty unlikely, although I'd love to try. I really like the linen you're using. Is it heavier than regular linen (I think they call it an upholstery weight)?

Thanks, Rose. The linen is just a lightweight linen--I got it in the clothing section at JoAnn Fabrics. It's not lightweight like linen napkins, but it's not heavyweight either. I think it's a perfect slipcover weight. And of course I couldn't beat the $9/yd price tag! :)

These are going to be beautiful!!

I did one for a loveseat....and you are sooo right, the linen just gets better and better when you wash it! I would love to find some of the really heavy linen.

Happy mothers day Sharona!
